Disputatio:Pagina prima
Can anybody add a link to this orphan page (Reply of Menumorut to Árpád) somewhere in here? It's taken from w:en:Menumorut Bogdan 22:30, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- I did finally add it, but inasmuch as you also added the Gesta Hungarorum it's a bit odd. --Iustinus 06:13, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- At first I found only this section of Gesta Hungarorum and then found the whole text somewhere. :-) Bogdan 23:08, 20 octobri 2006 (UTC)
Dead Links
recensereFYI: I've put up a few links to things that don't exist. While I do have the sources for these, they need to be proofed/edited, and I don't have the time at present. I'll get these taken care of just as soon as my papers are done.
Cheers, Notcarlos 03:04, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I look forward to it! --Iustinus 05:31, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Editions
recensereCan editions from the Latin library be placed, into Wikisource? (they are all in the public domain) And can these editions be adapted to current editions, without violating copyright (e.g. M. Lepidum instead of M'. Lepidum?; see my Dutch translation of the Ann. I 13.2..) --Evil berry 07:52, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
- I myself have no idea. I don't know who else watches this page, so you may want to try asking somewhere more popular. --Iustinus 20:36, 9 May 2005 (UTC)

Questions
recensereOn this project may I write original fiction or poetry that I would like to have read or edited by other Latin Litterate people?
What is your policy for using the letter J? I use it a lot I find.
Would it be possible for me to write a grammar of primer textbook for another language using Latin as the language of instruction? I have in mind English, French and Ancient Greek and possible Japanese.
- Great idea! But this is NOT the right project. For new original text in latin, you should try at VICILIBRI (http://la.wikibooks.org/).

Thinking of contributing
recensereI have been reading, writing and speaking in Latin for over 60 years and am currently a Latin teacher. You may suspect that I am a Catholic Priest but this is actually not the case as I am a married man. Recently having come to the internet I was surprised to see such a new life being breathed into the language. However, after having looked at the policies of the encyclopedia and textbook stations of this site I very much felt that I would not be welcome. There were several things but the policy on J really was the main issue for me. I use it and have used it for as I said over 60 years. Every book I own in Latin uses the letter. I use a complete vocabulary of the language and don`t force myself to only use the Ciceronian words.
I translated several Jane Austen novels into Latin for my own reading and the benifit of my students. I feel that these translations are perfectly good Latin and I have never had anyone complain about them and I would be thinking about allowing them to be put here but I really, really do not want to be told that my translation was faulty because of the vocabulary of using J or U. I honestly don`t know where this new policy came from and it seems very strange to me. You might be thinking that I am just an old man set in my ways but I really have thought about this and think that the whole idea of not using the letter J will stifle interest since J helps make the language more readable. I see many works here that have retained the letter J so I have hope that I may be included and not excluded. Well, I guess just tell me what you think.
- HI! First of all here we are on WIKISOURCE, it's a different project from WIKIPEDIA or WIKIBOOKS. Here we have not any policy on J. Anyway in this project we can insert texts with a source and an edition. So the J is welcome, but only if it is on the original editions of books (of course).

Help to understand ligatures etc.
recensereI believe I've seen somewhere a help page that explains the use of ligatures, like e.g. found at Pagina:Nicolai Copernici torinensis De revolutionibus orbium coelestium.djvu/18, but I can't find it anymore. Maybe it was on another language? Its easy to remember that "&" means "et", and a "ſ" is a long s, not a "small F". But there are tricky things out there in old print or even worse, handwriting. When encountering "mūdus", one can figure out that this likely means "mundus", and "cū" "cum", but there were many other tricky shortcuts in use. Is there an overview somewhere? --Matthead 04:32, 14 Ianuarii 2008 (UTC)

Titulum
recensereCur titulum in navigatore (web browser) "Wikisource" ostendit, nec Vicifons qui debendus esse?
Why does the title in my browser read "Wikisource" and not Vicifons, which it should be? VNNS 08:40, 20 Aprilis 2010 (UTC)
- On this page here, your browser shows "Disputatio:Pagina prima - Wikisource" in its title line, as the html source of this page contains "<title>Disputatio:Pagina prima - Wikisource</title>". The reason for that is that the variable {{SITENAME}} is set to "Wikisource" (Wikisource), not Vicifons. According to the Manual, this was done during setup, and can be changed in LocalSettings.php only. Server-level access is needed to change this. --Matthead 22:46, 1 Maii 2010 (UTC)
[Untitles]
recensereI'm doing something similar to this in wikibooks. I think we should put all in one only page, so here are the questions:
- Wikibooks or Wikisource?
- Do you want the wikibooks main page?
- Well, I think the two progect are different, so there isn't need to merge it. --Emc2fred83 10:08, 30 Martii 2011 (UTC)

Novus Thesaurus Linguae Latinae
recensereHere is a project that will attempt to digitize J. M. Gesner's 1749 revision of Estienne's Latin dictionary, using as a starting point the work already accomplished by the CAMENA project. Our purpose is to provide an intermediate monolingual dictionary for casual everyday use. Gesner's Lexicon, though dated in scholarship, is more than adequate for this purpose. If completed, the text will be published through Lulu at cost.
As mentioned, much of the work has already been done, and released under a CC licence. I have collated the pages and made them available on Vicifons in the hope that volunteers like myself will complete the work.
The dictionary was originally published in 4 volumes. However, because of file-size limitations on Wikicommons, each volume was split in two. This makes a total of 8 files:
- Liber:Gesner_novus_thesaurus_vol1_part1of2.pdf
- Liber:Gesner_novus_thesaurus_vol1_part2of2.pdf
- Liber:Gesner_novus_thesaurus_vol2_part1of2.pdf
- Liber:Gesner_novus_thesaurus_vol2_part2of2.pdf
- Liber:Gesner_novus_thesaurus_vol3_part1of2.pdf
- Liber:Gesner_novus_thesaurus_vol3_part2of2.pdf
- Liber:Gesner_novus_thesaurus_vol4_part1of2.pdf
- Liber:Gesner_novus_thesaurus_vol4_part2of2.pdf
Improvement needed
recensereThis needs to be improved.
"(in English)" at Pagina prima and "English Main Page" at the left is not Latin, so this is just some English POV nonsense. This likely also explains the English style at Biblia Sacra Vulgata (Stuttgartensia) with "chapter:verse" and the English POV at Vocabularium Cornicum.
