Summarium

Descriptio
English: A (possibily Coptic) symbol from Athanasius Kircher's 1697 book Turris Babel.

It is not stated what it means; it is shown in the book in relation to this "mystic character", and to the coptic letters (omicron) and (sigma). Kircher states to have seen this character in a very old fragment in the collection of Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc; his full description is: Videntur hae literae in pervetusto fragmento ab immortalis memoriae viro Nicolao Pereiscio transmisso, quod hic apponam, ubi vides quatuor statuas serpenti in circulum contorto inclusas, cum characteribus , et figura in medio |OC|... ("These letters [the Coptic Omicron and Sigma] are seen in a very old fragment trasmitted by the man of immortal memory Nicolaus Pereiscius, which I will here place, where you see four statues of snakes, intricatedly included in a circle, with the characters and in the middle the figure |OC|...")
