==English Translation==
Mourn, o Venuses and Cupids and whatever amount of charming men there is; my girl's sparrow is dead—the sparrow, delight of my girl, whom she was loving more than her own eyes. For he was honeysweet and knew her better than the girl her mother, and he did not move from her lap, but hopped around from here to there, chirping continuously to his mistress alone; who now goes on a journey through that shadowhaunted place, from where they say no one returns. And may it go badly for you, foul shades of Orcus, who devour all that is beautiful: you stole from me the so beautiful bird. O evil deed! O poor little bird! Now, by your deed are the eyes of my girl red and slightly swollen from weeping.
