: Do you want the margin notes to bounce back and forth in the finished work? It would be preferable to have them consistently on one side in the final work. The margin notes only shift between left and right because the original is a printed book with recto and verso pages. The electronic copy here will not have such differences, so you might as well ignore them.
: I can also say that side notes / margin notes have been a constant headache on the English Wikisource.
