Extended instructions

recensere

This template provides a standard formatting and cathegorization for the authors' pages, aka Scriptores. It retrives most of the informations from Wikidata, but some of the template's parameters can override wikidata values to adjust them to the latin wikisource needs. Below each parameter is discussed more extensively.

|Nomen= is the full name (in latin!) of the author, like Marcus Tullius Cicero or Gulielmus Shakesperius, and returns it in bold (Marcus Tullius Cicero). If the parameter is not compiled, the template will return the name of the page, without the Scriptor: label.

IndicisNomen

recensere

IndicisNomen= is the name under which the page is cathegorized, like Cicero, Marcus Tullius or Shakesperius, Gulielmus. If not compiled, the template will cathegorize the page under the author's full name, wich can be appropriate in some cases (like in the case of Arnobius) but clearly wrong in others (like in the case of Gulielmus Shakesperius, which sould be categorized under Shakesperius, not under Gulielmus!). Therefore to compile this parameter is strongly recommended, if not mandatory. The template will also add the appropriate category of the alphabetical index, based on the first letter of IndicisNomen (so, in the case of IndicisNomen=Cicero, Marcus Tullius, it will add Categoria:Scriptor-C).

Alias= allows to insert other name(s) under which the author is known, if need be; it will be inserted inside brakets, before the dates of birth and death. It accepts standard wiki markup, so to specify, for instance, the english name of Gulielmus Shakesperius:

Alias= anglice '''William Shakespeare'''

will return

Gulielmus Shakesperius (anglice William Shakespeare; 23 aprilis 1564...

Munera= is to insert the author's main jobs, occupations or positions. Examples are poeta (poet), philosophus (philosopher), rerum gestarum scriptor (historian) and so on; see here for a complete list. If the parameter is not compiled, the template will (try to) retrieve the occupations from wikidata, but it is recommended to compile it anyway, because a) not all possible occupations yet have a Latin translation on Wikidata, so they could be visualized in english, and b) some author have a very long list of values for the occupation statement on Wikidata, not all of which are pertinent for Wikisource. The template will also add the occupations categories, based on this parameter and also on wikidata values, so if you write Munera=poeta, and see the page categorized in Poetae but also in Philosophi, don't worry, this means that the author has a Philosopher statement on wikidata :).

Please note that the country of citizenship is specified by the following parameter, so please do not add country's adjectives (like Romanus) in this section, or it will be displayed twice!

Natio= is to insert the author's country of cityzenship; it accepts either the country names (Roma antiqua,Italia, Anglia...) or the correspondding adjective (Romanus, Italicus, Anglicus...); see the table on the bottom for a full overview. This parameter too, as munera, will display wikidata's country statement if left blank, but, again as for munera, it is recommended to compile it, because many authors lack this statement on wikidata, or it is too specific to be of use on latin wikisource. The template will also add the country category, based on this parameter.

PostNatio

recensere

PostNatio= allows to add additional informations to be displayed after the citizenship adjective. As an example, for Thomas Aquinas,

|Munera = theologus
|Natio = Italia
|PostNatio = , doctor atque sanctus ecclesiae

will return

theologus Italicus, doctor atque sanctus ecclesiae

NomenImago

recensere

the template automatically adds the image in the corresponding statement on Wikidata. A different image can be chosen, anyway, with the |NomenImago= parameter, if need be.

What about dates of birth and death?

recensere

There is no need to specify the dates of birth/death in the template, since they are automatically retrived from wikidata

"Quaeso nexum Wikidata adde"

recensere

if the author's page is not connected to wikidata, the template will only return the author's name, occupations (if any) and the alert

QUAESO NEXUM WIKIDATA ADDE! - PLEASE CONNECT THIS PAGE WITH WIKIDATA

in this case, please go to Wikidata, find the corresponding item (in 99% of cases, a Latin author will already have an item) and connect it by putting Scriptor:Whatever in the corresponding Wikisource box; than come back to Scriptor:Whatever, and refresh the page (if nothing changes, try a null edit).
