The Death of Philip

Cercās cum hīs sociīs suīsque[1] mīlitibus iam omnēs in partīs iter fēcit per silvās, et undique hostēs in fugam dedit. Quārē postrēmō Philippus ipse paucīs cum comitibus per vallīs multa mīlia passuum in palūdēs longinquās fugere coāctus est; numquam enim colōnīs sē dēdere cōnstituerat: quīn etiam ōlim, cum quīdam[2] ex eius amīcīs dīcere ausus esset pācem cum eīs faciendam esse, rēx īrātus hominem[3] suā[4] manū occīdit. Cuius reī[5] acerbitāte[6] commōtus, frāter mortuī[7] statim ad colōnōs perfūgit eōsque certiōrēs fēcit de palūde, ubi Philippus tum latēbat.

Itaque dux colōnōrum, quī multōs diēs frūstrā quaesīverat rēgem modoque[8] domum redierat ut uxōrem cōnsōlārētur, iterum celeriter profectus est, mīlitēsque suōs prope illam palūdem sine morā īnstrūxit. Quā rē[9] animadversā, Philippus eiusque comitēs per vallēs longius fugere cōnātī sunt; rēx vērō[10] īnfēlix[11], interceptus ā mīlitibus quī in silvā collocātī erant, ā frātre eiusdem Indī interfectus est, quem ipse occīderat. Caput Philippī secūrī abscīsum[12] colōnī sēcum domum tulērunt; ubi suprā[13] portam positum est, ut omnēs vidērent rēgem rē vērā[14] mortuum esse.
